Day 2 - Albuquerque to Durango

July 12, 2015

Out at 8:01 a.m., we headed straight to Frontier Restaurant in Albuquerque, NM. If you ever find yourself in Albuquerque, you HAVE to go. Right across the street from the University of New Mexico, it's known for GIANT cinnamon rolls, fresh everything, and most importantly, the big vat of green chile sauce that goes great with, well...everything.

After breakfast we headed up towards Durango, stopping only for essentials, which of course includes a Dairy Queen Blizzard. #LunchOfChampions

The scenery along the way was amazing, including some red splashes of rock that appeared to be painted diagonally across the mountains. There were lot of "wow" moments and pictures taken out the window, most of which came out a little too dark (yes, Kalli, window tinting will affect the quality of your photos). That being said, I wish I had her eye and reflexes with the camera, as Kalli snapped the pics below as we were barreling down the highway.

After arriving in Durango and checking into what we called "The Treehouse" (a loft built over someone's garage that we're staying in for one night for free...long story), we walked downtown to explore. We wandered into the Visitor Center, the Strater Hotel and a place with some tasty local brew (Pinstripe Red Ale and Mexican Logger, both by Ska Brewing) and some good queso considering we ain't in Texas.

On the walk back, we narrowly avoided a pounding rainstorm by ducking into a coffee shop. After an hour or so, we called a cab and made it back dry.  It was a short night...we were all exhausted!
